Aaron Mulkey
Aaron Mulkey takes you on a summer ice climbing trip to Alaska’s Matanuska Glacier with the goal of exploring and climbing deep glacier moulins. It’s all the fun parts of ice climbing without the cold and suffering. While surface temperatures hovered in the 40–50°F range, the environment changed dramatically once they descended deep into the glacier. The biggest challenge was simply finding the moulins and navigating the massive, maze-like glacier, where scale and complexity make route finding anything but straightforward. The reward came from dropping into the hidden interior of the glacier itself and then climbing incredibly steep brilliant blue ice for nearly 200ft.
